In Memory of

In lieu of things that never happened,

In those dreams that were fulfilled not

In minds, haunted by thoughts

You reside, amidst empty lots.

Questions still arise aplenty

The ‘why’ and ‘what if ’

Some recrimination and some regret

Of things unsaid, promises not kept.

A parent mourns the sudden loss,

Loved ones wonder, still in shock.

Strangers weep, for a good soul lost,

A friend still struggles, acceptance is hard.

The years like clockwork go past

New friends, places, views and thoughts

Yet with each year memories grow stronger

Of a good life lived, however short.

You are always missed,

Your smile still alive in many hearts,

The joyous moments remembered

And the last sad day, forgotten not.
